Check Documents - Look for following documents Registration certificate in original Insurance NOC in case of hypothecation Service records, owner’s manual Check for title, city of registration, city of sale, original color in RC, Any endorsement for LPG/CNG, scrap, Salvage.Any stamp of court against bail
Inspecting the car - Always see car in broad daylight. Few important points are mentioned below which can be checked by yourself.
Body - Look for rust spots, particularly at the bottom of fenders, around light and bumpers, under doors and roof top .Front fender edge with black spot may indicate that the fender has been changed and repainted. Check for repaint portions and paint mismatches. To check for accident sealant applications to be checked around all panel joints (Indoor, back doors, roofs).Check sealant application under hood for accident signs. Never buy car with ID plate missing.
The interior - Make sure all lights, direction signals, and mechanical parts work properly ,Check Air conditioner & windshield washer working at all knobs positions. Low mileage, a worn out driver’s seat, run down brake and accelerator pedals indicates tempered odometer. A musty smell inside could mean that car was damaged in flood or rain water leaks into the car. The car should have proper battery connections. Presence of thick layer of dirt (sand, insect, leaves) on the air filter shows a bad maintenance.
Check for leakage and cracks - Shockers are supposed to be dry and intact. Check for leakage from engine oil pump and stains under the car, cracks on the suspension springs, inside the tyre walls, damper foundation, propeller shaft etc. Press and release grip on the car if it keeps rocking you may need to change the shockers.
Wheels - If wheels are not of same brand then chances are that car has done more mileage than visible in the odometer. If tyres are worn out unevenly it indicates problem in alignment and suspension. Do not forget to check condition of spare wheel. Check date of manufacturing of tyres.
Test Drive - Check following while taking test drive Accelerate and check for abnormal engine noise See steering response and noise if any Gear shifting operation and noise. Check hand brake, brake and clutch operation. Any feeling of dragging car to one side or wobbling.
