GM India's President & Managing Director, Karl Slym has won the prestigious NDTV Car & Bike 2011 "Automotive Man of the Year" award. Karl is the first non-Indian expat and first Multi-National Company CEO to receive this prestigious award. In the past, captains of the Indian industry like Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra, Bajaj et al have only received this coveted award.
This recognition is well deserved considering his significant contribution to the automotive industry during his tenure here in India. It was also evident when Government of India nominated Karl about an year back as a member of the Automobile Policy making Development Council of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion of the Industry Ministry. In addition, his appointments as Chairman of various Committees including CEOs Council of industry bodies and Chambers like Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Automotive Research Association of India, Confederation of Indian Industry and American Chamber of Commerce etc have further validated his candidature for this award. Undoubtedly, this is one of the proudest moments for all of us in GM as this is the first time an MNC or a non-indian CEO has received this award.
