GM to launch Chevrolet

General Motors India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the US automobile giant General Motors, on Tuesday announced its plans to enter the Indian market with its most famous brand 'Chevrolet'. The company said it is in the process of introducing more models in the near future, but declined to name the models.

"We will launch a couple of products in the next few months to have a presence in the mainstream market.

We are looking at all growing segments of the automobile market", GMI President and Managing Director Aditya Vij said.

The company currently manufactures Opel Astra, Corsa and Swing at its Halol plant, apart from selling Vectra imported in completely built unit form.

Vij said some of the Chevrolet brand products would be manufactured in India, while others would be imported as CBUs. The company will be utilising the existing Opel franchisees to sell the Chevrolet brand.
