About Dwight Yorke:

Manchester United’s smiling assassin was one of the leading lights in the club’s unforgettable Treble season. After joining from Aston Villa in September 1998 for £12.6million, the Trinidad and Tobago international striker enjoyed a debut campaign to savour: bagging 29 goals to finish top scorer as the Reds swept the honours. Having struck up particularly fruitful on-field relationships with Andy Cole and David Beckham, the skilful, intelligent front man was similarly prolific in his second season. Thereafter, the form of Teddy Sheringham and the arrival of Ruud van Nistelrooy limited Yorke’s involvement, but he did turn in one of Old Trafford’s all-time great individual displays in 2001’s 6-1 win over Arsenal, in which he hit a 22-minute hat-trick. Dwight joined Blackburn in 2002 and subsequently Birmingham City, Sydney FC and Sunderland, but his return to Old Trafford as an opponent invariably provoked a warm reception from the grateful home support.
